Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) Initial Application Checklist

Minimum of 2500 hours of eating disorder experience

• Begin accruing once you are a licensed provider

• Time accruing experience hours cannot be fewer than 24 months

• Minimum of 2000 direct client/patient care service hours and minimum of 150 indirect client/patient care service hours. The additional 350 hours could be either direct or indirect.

• Direct care services include: activities directly related to treatment of client/patient including face-to-face interaction, case conceptualization, team coordination of care and treatment documentation.
  
• Indirect care services include: supervision, case-based learning/teaching, community presentation, program development, teaching on eating disorder topics, coursework and readings, blog entries and other writings, journal clubs.

24 hours of consultation provided by an iaedp-Approved Consultant (CEDS-C)

• Must receive consultation from an iaedp-Approved Consultant (CEDS-C), with signed agreement between applicant and consultant including dates in agreement. iaedp does not provide agreement templates.

• Minimum of 12 hours of individual/dyad consultation. The additional 12 hours can be individual or group consultation

Continuing Education (CE)

• 20 hours of continuing education specific to eating disorders, demonstrated with a certificate that includes name, date, number of hours earned and title of training.
  • If the title of training or provider is not specific to eating disorders, there will be a request for learning objectives or session description that must include relevance/reference to eating disorders. Courses and trainings that do not explicitly reference eating disorders will not be applicable.

Complete 4 Core Course, and quiz for each in iaedp’s Online Learning Portal

• Core courses are each worth 3 hours of CE and can also be applied to CE requirements

Final Exam

• Passing score greater than 80%.

• Score is valid for 2 years

Complete CEDS application in iaedp’s Application Portal

• Begin application once all requirements are met
  

• Proof of current eligibility to practice

• Copy of final transcript or diploma, must corresponding to license to practice
  

• Curriculum Vitae (CV)

• Consultation verification
  

• 3 Letters of Recommendation

• Letter writers cannot be your iaedp^TM-Approved Consultant or personal therapist

• Letter writers should be licensed or credentialed eating disorder treatment team professionals

• At least one letter writer should be within your own discipline

• Proof of continued education hours

• Core Course Certificates

• Final Exam Certificate

• $195 application fee paid

Once your application is submitted it will be verified by Certification team.  Please allow up to 30 days for verification by our Certification team.

Upon verification completion, your application will be reviewed by the Certification Committee. Please allow 90 days for review by Certification Committee.

As of January 2025, changes to the CEDS and CEDS-C are outlined below. However, if you opened or began an application before July 8, 2024, your application will still include these verification steps. You can put "N/A" or upload a placeholder blank document to fulfill the verification steps in the platform.
