"Restricting and Dieting Managers, Bingeing, Purging and Overexercising Firefighters, and Ashamed" By Deborah Klinger, MA, LMFT, CEDS
According to the Internal Family Systems model (IFS) of psychotherapy, eating disordered behaviors are the purview of protective parts of the psyche, which work hard to shield us from the emotional pain contained in vulnerable parts. Connecting to our parts from our core compassionate, caring Self engenders healing and recovery.
Deborah Klinger, MA, LMFT, CEDS is a psychotherapist in private practice in Durham, NC. She has worked in the eating disorders field since 1990. She treats clients across the eating disorders spectrum individually and in groups. She is a clinical member of AAMFT and NCAMFT. An IAEDP Approved Supervisor, she has given numerous presentations on eating disorders, and is published in “Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention" and on goodtherapy.org's Eating and Food Issues blog. She is an IFS Program Assistant and is also trained in Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, Yoga Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, DBT and EMDR.
