This virtual Asian Pacific Islander and Desi American (APIDA) mental health conference is an exciting collaboration between Yellow Chair Collective, NASW API Social Work Council NorCal/SoCal and California Society for Clinical Social Work (CSCSW) to provide support and training to APIDA professionals in the field. Mental health is often a novel and unfamiliar concept in the APIDA communities. This comes with unfortunate consequences such as a lack of culturally responsive support in areas such as supervision, consultation, mentorship and educational training. As APIDA professionals enter or try to navigate the field, many of them may find themselves feeling isolated and lost in the process. This conference, "Through our lens, With our voice," provides an opportunity to amplify the voices and resources of APIDA mental health professionals as they negotiate the continued effects of the pandemic and anti-Asian hate and discrimination. In an often culturally conflicting world, this conference emphasizes the importance of furthering the knowledge APIDA clinicians have about their own communities so that they can solidify their "lens" or view of the world, and find a collective "voice." Presentations will be centered around culturally responsive content centered around clinical applications and approaches, including experiential workshops and educational workshop formats.
