Featured Sessions Acknowledging Racism Doesn't Make you Racist: Factors to Consider When Treating Eating Disorders: The Roots of Anti-Blackness and Anti-Racism The overall theme of this session portrays the complexities of acknowledging the unconscious biases upon which we act, and which must be brought to our conscious awareness if we are to operate in an antiracist fashion. Especially as eating disorder clinicians, we must recognize that we are affected by and reflective of the structures of the society in which we are immersed, structures which disproportionately disadvantage people from marginalized communities. Anti-racism is about action, interrupting the systems that are in place. This presentation is an opportunity for participants to discuss the impact of racism and anti-blackness on clients of color. | Presenters

Acknowledging Racism Doesn't Make you Racist: Factors to Consider When Treating Eating Disorders: Allyship- Going Beyond the Performative Systemic racism has pervasive impacts on those suffering from eating disorders as well as those engaged in trying to alleviate that suffering. These injustices disproportionately harm communities of color, clients we serve and relationships within our spheres of influence. We explore authentic allyship that focuses on actions over rhetoric and discuss the importance of social justice approaches in our clinical work to both elevate and deepen our work with ameliorating the impacts of eating disorders. These presentations focus on applying racial consciousness to addressing injustices in our clinical practice and acting as allies and advocates for those struggling with EDs. | Presenters
